How to Make Minecraft Perler Bead Pattern Kid Crafts
Learn how to make Minecraft Perler Bead art, perfect for keychains, ornaments, hanging on a garland or giving as handmade gifts.
Minecraft is an iconic pixelated game that has spanned multiple generations.
My kids loved making Perler bead Minecraft characters and I bet your kids will too!
This post is updated from its original 2014 post.
MINECRAFT PERLER BEAD PATTERNS:
Here's a simple pattern for the Enchanted Netherite Sword on Minecraft.
You can alter the colors to create a diamond sword or the regular sword made from wood, gold, stone, iron, diamond and netherite.
Print it out or save it off to use as a reference as you are placing your Perler beads on the board.
Supplies Needed for Minecraft Perler Bead Crafts:
- Perler Beads (Hama beads, fuse beads or Melty beads are the same thing)
- Black Perler Beads (You'll need lots of black beads)
- White Perler Beads (Again, you'll want lots of white beads too)
- Perler Boards (it's nice to have some square boards and some on the diagonal)
- Iron or EasyPress Mini
- Parchment Paper
- Pliers or Tweezers (optional but fun for hand coordination)
I've got a whole other post here on making Minecraft Necklaces, so check this one out too!
STEP 1: PLACE PERLER BEADS
Begin by deciding on the perfect Minecraft designs to transform into a Perler bead creation.
Set out the large pegboard and pour individual Perler beads or Perler bead sprites, as they are called, into a shallow dish, like a baking dish, for easy sorting.
This is a great exercise for kids to count rows, lines and dots as they create their perler bead design.
I printed off some pixel images to use as a reference and let my kids make them all on their own.
Using pliers to carefully set the sprites in place makes the process a little less stressful.
This craft is great for older kids, and keep the babies away...older kids do not need the table bumped or pieces scattered...not to mention that these melt beads should not be ingested.
STEP 2: MELT THE PERLER BEADS
This Minecraft Diamond is now ready to heat press. (there are basic directions on the Perler bead packaging for more melting instructions)
I like using a craft heat press because the heat stays consistent, where household irons don't usually keep a consistent temperature.
Cover with a small piece of parchment and press gently, melting the top of the beads.
Some people like to melt them really flat, some just like to melt them enough to hold together.
I typically help my kids with the ironing part, because it can be tricky for small hands.
STEP 3: EMBELLISHMENTS
Now that there's a grand collection of Minecraft themed perler beads, melted and useable...it's time to turn them into something fun!
Here's some ideas for what to do with your finished Minecraft pieces:
- Perler bead magnets (hot glue a magnet on the backside)
- Christmas tree ornaments (add an ornament hook to the top)
- Keychains (loop keychain hardware through the top)
- Hot Glue to Hair Clips
- Valentine or other homemade gift
- Loop onto a Necklace
- String with yarn to make a party garland
If you are a Minecraft fan, you'll definitely want to make a grass block, zombie or maybe a zombie pigman, a diamond block, a water bucket, a Creeper, a dirt block, a Villager, a Ghast, an Enderman, a lava bucket and even an Enderdragon.
Minecraft hearts are fun too and would make a darling garland!
Make a whole collection of Perler Bead gaming symbols.
This is a fun and easy way to add custom ornaments to a themed Christmas tree!
MINECRAFT CREEPER PATTERN:
Make a Creeper using a variety of green Hama beads.
A Diamond is made with a few shades of blues and white, again, you'll need a lot of black beads for outlines and faces.
MINECRAFT ZOMBIE PATTERN:
A Minecraft zombie is a fun creation too!
Just 3 colors needed, aqua, green and purple...oh, and a couple black fuse beads for the eyes.
MINECRAFT DIAMOND PATTERN:
The Minecraft diamond could be made on a smaller scale as well.
Use a variety of fuse beads in blues, plus black to outline it.
MINECRAFT SWORD PATTERN:
The Minecraft sword is a must-build.
It's super iconic and fun to customize.
Make it an enchanted netherite sword in purples...or make it a diamond sword in blues and greens.
Make the regular sword using gray or silver.
Make your own custom Minecraft sword in any color you like best!
Make sure you have plenty of white and black melty beads for any bead creations, they are the most used and useful.
I typically get a bucket of mixed colors and then individual bags of black and white.
MINECRAFT ENDERMAN AND DIRT BLOCK PATTERN:
Use a large pegboard for the Ender man build, so his long arms can stretch out properly...plus he can hold a dirt block or you can put a cloud of purple under his feet too.
That's it!

My kids asked if they could play Minecraft on my Kindle back in 2013.
We got the Minecraft Pocket Edition, I think it was $6 to buy.
It's fun how it's taken over and there are Minecraft gamers, youtubers and people's careers launched because of Minecraft.
My daughter has a youtube channel Kazoo Does Art where she does animatics of sound threads...a lot of them are from the Dream SMP, so she got her big start from Minecraft too!
I love it, Minecraft has spanned multiple generations, just like Star Wars...although I will not be seeing the Minecraft movie with Jack Black, it just looks unenjoyable.
