Yarn Dolls!

My daughter went to an Activity Day camp for church.
Not an overnighter...just 2 days of crafts and spirituality at the church.
When she came home she wanted to show me what she learned to make!
Yarn dolls!
They had made them as a service to donate to less fortunate kids in the world.
She paid close attention so she could show me later.
(chip off the old block!)

We spent some extra time making ours look super cute!

And made a couple silly ones for the boys.

No worries...these are way

 easier than these String Dolls we did last year...

You'll just need yarn and a book.

We used the LDS Hymn book...but it's about 8 inches in width.

Begin by wrapping the book 72 times with yarn.
Keeping track of your starting yarn tail...

So you can tie it off at the top.

Then carefully pull the yarn off the book...keeping hold of the loop you made.

Get the yarn in a choke hold position!
This will make the head of your doll.

Take the yarn ends and tie them around its neck as tight as you can!

Like this.
Perfect little head!

Now cut all the looped ends at the bottom of the doll.

Split off 2 sections for arms.
About 1/6th of the bulk of the body on each side.

Braid the arms.

Tie them off with yarn.

Perfect arms!
Now you can add a waist band!

And decorate however you like!
We got some teal and tied it on her waist and then
just wrapped it all around her like a shirt!

Wrapped it about 25 times around my hand...

Tied it and wrapped it around her waist for the skirt bottom.

Tied it tight and cut all the looped edges.

Then did the same technique for some lovely green hair
(yes, we only had 3 colors of yarn...that has since been remedied)

We also braided a thin waist band.

We braided her hair and then just glued it
on top of her head with hot glue!
Glued on the waistband too.

Then...eyes.
Googly eyes looked too cheesy...so we cut them and took the
small black circle out of them and glued it on!

Perfect and simple.

Just hot glued on.

Added a hair tie...

Shoved on a stick is a perfect little puppet or duster!

We made a couple boys...we call them
the "Training Dufus".
They get beat up a lot...boys!

We made friends!

So much fun and they are adorable!

My daughter was so pleased with her handiwork!
