Why I Started Wearing Deodorant Again!

I stopped wearing it about 12 years ago when I took a more natural approach to household products. It all started with toothpaste. I struggled dealing with canker sores for most of my life. I found that when I exercised hard and became really sweaty, it was better to just cleanse myself and not worry about perfumy cover-ups.

I am very allergic to perfume. I typically react by getting flu-like symptoms. I get headaches, body aches, and fatigue. The symptoms make it hard for me to pin down the actual cause as a smell that my body just can not handle. I stopped using any perfumes, scented lotions, scented laundry soap or anything else that has scents. I can however, handle natural scents in small quantities. Like a sweet citrus or cinnamon!
Last Christmas I bought my adorable 11 year old daughter some perfume. I thought as long as I wasn’t wearing it, that I would be fine. Unfortunately, I immediately got sick…the body ache/headache thing and just thought it was winter illness fun. After 3 days of feeling uncomfortable I walked into my daughter’s room and saw the perfume. *lightbulb* I put it together; I was allergic to the perfume. I felt sad and explained the situation to my daughter. She let me get rid of the perfume...and instantly my health improved.

Then there is the issue with parabens. They are chemicals used to prevent bacteria growth in cosmetic products. They are pretty much in every lotion, cosmetics, lipstick, shampoos, lotions, washes and more! They are xenoestrogens that mimic estrogen in bodies. So they cause a chemical imbalance that is connected to breast cancer and other reproductive issues. My mom died of breast cancer in 1998, so whether or not this information is fact or not verified, I’m pretty determined to stay away from anything that could facilitate the end same in me.
