Happy Pineapple Day!Seriously, June 27th is Pineapple day, so why not celebrate! My daughter is totally into pineapples these days, so the more we can DIY, the better! Make a darling metallic Pineapple polka dot tote!
You will need:
Fabric for lining
Webbing for straps
and the
Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine
All the Cricut Design Space info and the FREE png files for the pineapple are on that post.
Lay the iron on vinyl metallic side down on the mat. Mirror the image for cutting.
Cut the pineapple bodies in gold.
Peel off the excess gold iron on.
I made this one big sheet of pineapples, so I didn't have to spread out the pineapples by hand like I did on the shirt. It wastes more vinyl but was easier in some respects. You pick.
Place the iron on with the plastic side up on the tote.
Cover with a tea towel and press that iron on each pineapple for about a minute.
Get those tiny detailed edges with the tip of the iron.
Peel back the plastic when it is cool.
Cut the green tops and cut them apart. Place where they should go on the pineapple bodies.
Cover with the tea towel and iron. Do not iron right on the metallic foil!
Peel off the plastic and enjoy the shine!
I love the metallic foil!
I decided to change out the straps and line my bag for strength.
These tote bags are my favorite to make over.
If you need some more directions on lining a bag, check out this past post here.
I used a black and white houndstooth I had in my stash.
I cut it slightly larger than the tote bag and sewed down each side. I did a corner tuck on the bottom corners to fit in the tote snugly.
Fit it inside, so the bold print show from the inside and fold over the top edge twice to make a cuff and sew it all around the top of the tote.
Looks great on the inside!
Next cut 2 straps of webbing, or some wide ribbon!
Pin them in place and then stitch them down.
Now it's ready for the pool, the beach or the Library!
It's the perfect summery tote bag!
