DIY Resin Monogram Necklace with Vinyl
Make a darling monogram necklace in just a few minutes. Perfect handmade gift for someone you love. This necklace is easy to make and a great project if you are new to using resin. Jewelry resin is super addicting--you will love it!
If you haven't tried your hand at resin crafting, this is the perfect project to start with. Resin comes in 2 parts, when mixed together creates a chemical reaction to harden it. It hardens to a glass like finish, shiny, smooth and crystal clear.
Resin can yellow over time, so it's best to use on surfaces that are darker in color or at least not white. All resins yellow over time, this is not brand specific. Just a heads up when working with it. It provides a glossy, wonderful finish!
I picked an "H" for my daughter, which letter will you choose?
Find a font that has the style of lettering you love. I love a great script font, you could use a permanent marker and hand letter it yourself, or use vinyl and cut it with an electronic cutting machine.
Supplies Needed for Resin Monogram Necklace:
Step 1: Cricut Vinyl
Cut a piece of paper the size of the inside of the bezel, using the scissors or punch.
Next use the Cricut Maker to cut some vinyl the size of your pendant bezel, about 3/4" tall.
Then place transfer tape on the vinyl and transfer the monogram to the scrapbook paper.
Step 2: Mod Podge
Next paint the Mod Podge inside the bezel.
Place the scrapbook paper inside and then paint Mod Podge over the top of the paper too. Let it dry completely.
Step 3: Jewelry Resin
Now read the directions for the jewelry resin. It's so important to make sure you are fresh on the directions before mixing up resin. It's time sensitive and if it's not mixed right, it won't set right and your project will be ruined.
Okay, so read the directions.
This bezel does not need much resin, but mix 1 part resin with 1 part hardener and mix for 2 minutes. Transfer into a second cup and stir with a second stick for 1 more minute. Mixing this 2 phase process is crucial for the hard setting of the resin.
Mix slow so you don't whip excess bubbles into it.
Set the bezel on a raised surface and then fill the inside of the bezel with the mixed resin. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, then use a torch or heat gun to pop all the formed bubbles. Let it sit and harden overnight.
Step 4: Add Chain
Use pliers to attach the chain to the bezel.
That's it! This necklace is ready to wear or gift!
I don't wear a lot of jewelry, but I love necklaces. I like big statement pieces, anything with sparkle and I love a great handmade piece too!
This initial necklace is easy to make and just needs a little drying time...but it makes a pretty sweet handmade gift.
Stunning and simple! This is such a classy necklace that would mean a lot to anyone it was made for. Great for an Easter basket surprise or Mother's day!
That's it! Enjoy this custom monogram necklace. It's perfect for a handmade gift, Easter accessory or just to give resin a try. You'll love it!
