Glitter Star Hat with Cricut EasyPress Mini DIY!
My favorite crafting projects ALWAYS involve Iron-on vinyl! No joke, I love it. It's the quickest way to throw something custom together. Cricut has released another way to make iron-on quick, efficient and now, mini! Using even the smallest of the Cricut EasyPress family was big when it came to small things like hats, doll clothes, coozies, sleeves, cuffs, stuffed animals and other small/delicate things. Now the EasyPress family has a new member, the Mini, and it does all the small things. The EasyPress mini has 3 settings, essentially low, medium and high. The heat plate warms up evenly and quickly. When I first started making shirts, I used an iron. Yep, a standard household iron. Guess what? The vinyl rolled off after one wash. I was wasting so much iron-on and so many shirts. The EasyPress was a game changer for me and allowed me the quality I was looking for. The EasyPress mini is a great companion to any of the EasyPress 2 family. I love being able to use it for quick and small projects, like this hat.
I got this cute Fall hat...it's buffalo plaid and has some wool in it for a soft, felted texture. But I thought it needed a little something. Like a gold star...because it's that good.
Supplies Needed:
Hat or other equally amazing surfaceEasyPress Mini
Iron-On Vinyl
Cricut Cutting Machine
EasyPress Mat
5 minutes or less!
I used the shape tool in Cricut Design Space and simply made a 1.5 inch star. Then had the Cricut Maker cut it out at lightning speed...no need to even mirror the design since it is symmetrical. Place the iron-on on the mat with the shiny plastic side down.
I set the EasyPress Mini to the highest setting for the glitter iron on. Then weed the iron-on design with the weeding tool.
Place the hat on the EasyPress mat.
Then heat up the hat where the iron-on design is going to go. Just heat it up for about 5-10 seconds.
Then place the iron on star on the warm hat.
Next, press the EasyPress Mini down on the iron on design and press firmly. There is no reason to stand on your EasyPress, just firm pressure. Press for about 30 seconds then remove the heat.
Then let the iron on cool down completely. Finally remove the carrier sheet from the iron-on.
That's it! Enjoy putting iron-on vinyl on all the things! Perfect for small iron-on projects like hats, leather earrings, coozies, sleeves, doll clothes, cuffs, stuffed animals and other small things. I love my new EasyPress mini, it's absolutely adorable!
