Galaxy Paint Poured Resin Coasters DIY
Make stunning galaxy coasters with high gloss resin and vivid colors. These amazing coasters are addicting to make with this fun resin pour technique. Coasters are a great place to start when working with resin...and then progress to much larger scale pieces of art.I've worked with ETI-USA at Resin Crafts Blog for a couple years now and love working with resin. Using resin elevates any project and makes it look so professional. These resin coasters are no exception, I love the high quality finish and vivid colors.
Supplies Needed for Galaxy Resin Coasters:
(affiliate links included)Wood Coasters
High Gloss Resin
Opaque Pigment
Embossing Heat Tool
Stirring Sticks, Mixing Cups, Disposable Work Surface and Gloves
Small Cups
Step 1: Galaxy Coasters
Begin by painting all the coasters black. Then set them on little cups on a disposable surface. I use a plastic tablecloth, the resin peels right off it after it cures so it can be used more than once. Plus, you can use the resin drippings for other fun projects like this.
Step 2: Mix Resin
Mix up 8 ounces of resin according to package directions in the 2 phase process. Then pour the resin into smaller cups.Step 3: Mix Color
Add a little color in each of the cups. Add variations of colors by combining pigments. Then stir them all up with stirring sticks until thoroughly mixed.Make sure the coasters are rising above the table so the excess resin can drip off. Also be sure the table is level. The little cups underneath may get some resin on them, but it peels off easily once it is dry.
Step 4: Pour Colors
Now drip different colors of resin on each coaster. Use your GLOVED hands to tip and tilt the coaster to run it to the sides. (I know I wasn't wearing gloves, but it's super important...this stuff is sticky and smelly)Then set them back on the small cups.
Step 5: Heat Tool Time
After the resin has been poured on the coasters, use the embossing heat tool or heat gun to blow the resin. The heat will liquefy the resin and blow it around.
Blow the resin around the coaster. It will push the colors around in a nebulous way, revealing the black painted coaster...just like a Galaxy.
Little cells will form like magic! Stop when satisfied and let the resin set and cure. It's hard to know when to stop. Don't over think this process...and don't over work the resin.
After curing a couple of days, admire these amazing coasters! I love how they turned out!
Which of these coasters is your favorite? This one has all the primary colors!
This is a splattering of reds and pinks! But those subtle colors in there are so fun too.
There really is no way to know how the resin will transform when heated up...it's magic!
This blue and pink galaxy coaster is my favorite...it almost looks like the waves of the ocean...which is probably why I love it so much. The sea foam bubbles and the movement are spot on!
Like I mentioned earlier, you will be addicted to this fun crafting medium. Resin pours are so much fun! They cure shiny and glass like, perfect little art pieces for the coffee table!
