Floral Painted Wood Wreath!
This project is super close to my heart! Paint a wooden wreath for the perfect Summer time that is low profile but super stunning. This sweet wreath is a beautiful combination of my mom and myself.Okay, story time:
When I was young...like about 10-ish, my mom was really big into painting wooden art. Tole painting was all the rage and she loved it. She bought a bandsaw and was able to cut her own wood pieces.
She started having regular classes of friends that would come over and paint with her. I don't think she made any money, but they covered the cost.
Well, one of the projects she did was this wreath. She spent a lot of time painting one wreath and then she decided to paint another to give as a gift. And...like most of us crafters, she never finished it!
She passed away from breast cancer when I was nearly 17. So this was just a reminder of a life ended too early.
Here's how it looked when I inherited it a few years ago. It is penciled in the designs that she would have painted. I knew I couldn't paint it the same way she did...so I went rogue.
I decided to leave the white and blue flowers that my mom had painted and then add my own style for the rest.
I used acrylic craft paint from Plaid. I simple gooped in on the wreath using a round paintbrush. This technique would work on just a wooden round disc or wreath.
I mixed colors and painted roses, tulips and the gerber daisy.
I gooped on some blue painted flowers...and the blue bird.
Then I added ferns and leaves with teal and green paint...with little details in yellow.
I sprayed it with some glossy clear coat spray for a perfect shiny finish. I love the combination of my mom and my own styles on this flat wood wreath.
I'm especially glad that it's a project that is finished. I just tossed aside perfection and let myself give it a try. I love how it turned out!
That's it!
Perfect for the front door or part of the Summertime home decor. Low profile and nothing will fall off of it!Like, Pin and Share!
