Learn Bounce Lettering Tutorial for Beginners!
Have you give bounce lettering a try yet? It's basically an art form...you draw the letters and fill them in. This is faux calligraphy and is a great way to get comfortable learning calligraphy.
Don't be afraid to try something new. Make your move!
Supplies Needed for this Bounce Lettering:
Begin by using the pencil to write out the alphabet in big loopy cursive. You know, cursive, like 3rd grade cursive. If you didn't learn, just use my alphabet spread as a reference.
Then add the thick downstrokes by drawing an extra line everywhere you draw the letter downward.
This is faux calligraphy, with the thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes. The bounce part comes in because I don't adhere to a bottom or top line, it stays bouncy.
Then color them in with the colored pencils. These bright colors look neon on this black paper.
If you are comfortable to draw the letters without the initial pencil, give a mantra a try! I wrote Make Your Move...alternating colors for each letter. Again, notice the bouncy effect from not keeping them on a uniform line.
Which makes writing of this variety easier, because holding a straight line is very tricky. Let the letters bounce and play. Add small curls and flourishes to the end letters.
Then fill in the downstrokes as above to make the calligraphy illusion.
I love the way the colored pencil pops off the paper!
Now, make your move and give it a try!
