Coconut Sea Salt Hair Texturizing Spray DIY Recipe
I live by the mountains but my heart belongs to the ocean. I love the humidity of living near the ocean. I love the magic things it does to my hair. I live in the arid desert of Utah now and my hair has been struggling without the humidity.
But more than humidity, I miss the salt in my hair. I love the texture the ocean brings to my tresses. So I've got a simple solution to give me that beach babe hair. Homemade Coconut Seas Salt Hair Texturizing Spray.
Not too long ago I ordered some hair products and got a bottle of Sea Salt Spray for free. I was thrilled because I love salt spray. HOWEVER, I am super allergic to smells...and this stuff stunk. I knew if I wore it, I would not be okay with the overly perfumed scent.
I needed to make my own version with no harsh scents so I could enjoy the texture without the itchy eyes and headache. This texturizing spray smells of subtle coconut and salt...the 2 main ingredients.
It can be scented to your liking with any essential oil. Is there an essential oil that smells like a Pina Colada? I need that.
I used a mortar and pestle to grind up my sea salt into a fine powder.
I love the smell of sea salt! Sprinkle the crushed sea salt in the warm water and stir.
Then pour in the liquid coconut oil. This type of coconut oil will remain liquid at any temperature, so it won't clump up if it gets cold.
Stir up the mixture until the sea salt has mostly dissolved. Then add any essential oil to the concoction for scent. I keep mine plain, just that coconut and salt smell. I love it!
Shake the bottle before using and spritz on damp hair. Scrunch your hair with your fingers and let it dry, just like a day at the beach!
