How to Make Resin Quartz Crystals (DIY Epoxy Crystal)

They appear identical to real quartz crystals and reflect the light in the same manner.

I love clear quartz real crystals.

I love how they effect my physical environment, add spiritual properties, the free flow energy and vibrations of these crystals.

Whether you believe that real crystal quartz effect higher consciousness or not, these clear resin crystal pieces are beautiful on the coffee table and reflect direct sunlight and beautiful energy of rainbow prisms all over the house.

They are easy to reproduce and make a great gift, I know every kid I meet totally wants one, and they are beautiful in the sunlight.

The weight of your artwork will be about the same weight as the quartz crystal, so it's a perfect match!
Based on the photos of a piece, you can't even tell which ones are real quartz and which ones are resin.

The resin will most likely yellow a bit over time, especially without appropriate uv blockers in the resin, but they will still look realistic!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR QUARTZ CRYSTALS RESIN DIY:

EasyMold Silicone Rubber
Small plastic container that fits the crystals
1 or more actual crystals (could be formed out of clay or wood)
Hot Glue/Gun
Mold Conditioner and Release Spray
EasyCast Resin
Stirring Sticks
Mixing Cups
Disposable gloves and worksurface

STEP 1 MOLD MAKING:

Begin by making the mold of the crystals.

Find a plastic container that fits the actual crystals you have, I am using 2 quartz crystals in one container to make 2 out of resin.

Regular price for a quartz crystal is about 10 bucks, so crystals could also be formed out of some oven-bake or polymer clay or carved out of wood too--or be a different size or different colors of rock...like obsidian or rose quartz.

STEP 1 MOLD MAKING: Begin by making the mold of the crystals. Find a plastic container that fits the actual crystals you have, I am using 2 quartz crystals in one container to make 2 out of resin. Regular price for a quartz crystal is about 10 bucks, so crystals could also be formed out of some oven-bake or polymer clay or carved out of wood too--or be a different size or different colors of rock...like obsidian or rose quartz.

Spray the inside of the container with the Mold Release Spray gently.

Next, place some hot glue on one smooth, flat facet of the crystal.

Press the hot glue onto the bottom of the plastic container, securing the crystals in place.

Don't worry, no permanent damage will come to the original quartz crystals.

STEP 2: EASYMOLD SILICONE RUBBER

Now it’s time to mix up the EasyMold Silicone Rubber.

Read and follow the directions carefully...wear appropriate gloves and protective gear while working with resin and epoxy.

Mix one part of each tub and mix thoroughly until there is no marbling.

Spray the inside of the quartz crystals and container with Mold Conditioner and Release Spray, this will help when trying to remove the mold.

Once mixed according to the directions, pour the silicone rubber in the plastic container, completely covering the crystals.

Let the container sit for about 24-48 hours.

After the silicone rubber is set, remove the mold from the plastic container.

It can be a bit tricky because the container is rigid…but keep working at it with a stirring stick, loosening up each edge and get it to lift up, releasing the hot glued crystals as well.

STEP 3 RESIN CRYSTAL MAKING:

Trim the top of the silicone rubber mold with a small pair of scissors.

Prepare to mix the clear casting resin.

You will need resin rated for a deep pour so it will cure and set up properly.

A good way to know how much to mix up is to fill the mold with water and then empty the water into a measured cup…then mix up that amount. It doesn't take much epoxy resin for a single crystal.

STEP 3 RESIN CRYSTAL MAKING: Trim the top of the silicone rubber mold with a small pair of scissors. Prepare to mix the clear casting resin. You will need resin rated for a deep pour so it will cure and set up properly. Mix one part resin with one part hardener for 2 full minutes with a stirring stick.

Then pour into a second cup and stir with a second stick for 1 full minute.
