How to Wrap an Open Box: Creative Gift Wrapping!
Here's how to wrap an open box! This time of year we need boxes for gift wrapping, but the items don't always fit inside. This is a creative alternative for a basket too--compostable at that!
Wrap an open box with fabulous and festive wrapping paper and then fill the box with all the gifts, treats and goodies.
Creative gift wrapping is my favorite thing--I am not great at wrapping gifts but I love to do it anyway.
This is a great way to wrap something that you want visible, is too big for the box you own, or just to show off your amazing gift giving in a gift box style.
Works great for bringing dinner over to a family too...just wrap the open box so it looks much prettier than just a box, but they don't have to return it.
Supplies Needed to Wrap an Open Box:
- 1 Cardboard Box (with the top flaps cut off)
- Wrapping Paper (this double sided paper is beautiful!)
- Clear Tape/Dispenser
- Adhesive Roller Tape (you can still use clear tape and roll it)
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut Paper
Begin by cutting a piece of wrapping paper that fits the box on the four sides, those grid lines are time savers.
If you have a small enough box, the wrapping can go over the outside as well as the inside completely too.
Then cut the corner of the wrapping paper to the corner of the box in a 90 degree angle, like pictured:
Repeat cutting the corners on all four corners.
Step 2: Fold
Fold down the edge of each of the paper flaps about an inch or so...this flap can also be made twice as long and fold inside the box to cover the inside box.
Step 2: Tape
Apply the adhesive tape on the wrapping paper on all the edges and across the top.
If you don't have an adhesive roller, just roll pieces of tape and stick them across the paper...hot glue would work too.
Step 3: Wrap
Wrap it up over the box and tuck the flap inside the box.
Repeat this process for all 4 sides.
Now the box is covered all over the outside of the box and can be filled with all sorts of goodies, cool tools and craft supplies.
You can take the time to cut pieces to fit inside the box as well if you want a more finished look inside the box.
Just cut a panel of wrapping paper the size of the right sides of the box and tape it inside.
Or just add some tissue paper and gifts and it probably won't show the inside of the box at all!
Step 4: Fill with Goodies!
I was able to gift these fun items to a friend that had just moved and didn't have anything creative in her house or budget.
I included a Watercolor themed gift pack:
Adult Coloring gift pack:
Hand Lettering gift pack:
And Painting gift pack...with some stickers:
Wrap Box instead of Gift Basket
Stacked the tall way inside the open box for the cutest gift imaginable, raffle prize, baby shower gift, wedding gift, Christmas or holiday gifts or new home owner gift basket!
It's a great way to give gifts that don't fit in a standard box without investing in a basket the person may not use.
Plus, it's perfect for recycling boxes and reducing excess waste with gift bags...great for adding tissue paper too!
I love seeing all those fun things inside!
I love receiving craft supplies, so this is my kind of gift!
UPCYCLE BOXES
Wrap up boxes for storage and organization inside the home too.
Boxes can be wrapped to store magazines, craft supplies, office supplies and even clothing!
Great way to upcycle some old boxes!
This fun way to wrap an open box is perfect for so many applications.
Will you be wrapping open boxes this holiday season?
That's it!
It's so easy to give gifts in creative packages by upcycling old boxes into gorgeous gift baskets!
Use a cardboard box with the top flaps removed and wrap it up fancy and use it as a gift box.
Great for holidays and Christmas gift giving!
