Side Note:

Brownie stacks are all the rage! They are much easier than baking, layering and frosting a cake. Such a fun alternate to cupcakes too. I love brownies, they are my love language. No really.

Brownie stacks are typically just stacked brownies and then sometimes drizzled with chocolate ganache, peanut butter or caramel. Sometimes also adorned with sprinkles, candy bars/truffles/chocolates, or nuts. Whatever you love, throw it on there!

These delightful brownies are brookies. It's simply a box brownie mix, mixed according to the package and baked in a 9X13 pan for 25 minutes. Then removed from the oven and sprinkled with chocolate chip cookie dough. Then placed back in the oven for 12-14 minutes until the brownies are cooked enough that a toothpick comes out clean.

Step 1: Draw the Rainbow

Begin by deciding the color order you want your rainbow. This can be drawn in primary colors or in a bright color palette like mine. Put the markers in the order you want to use them for easy reference.

I love rainbows and have a hard time veering away from rainbow color order. My rainbows always go with the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple style. This time I am using Pinks in place of the red, but it's the same order.

Then start with the first marker and draw a curved arch on the watercolor paper. Then follow the arch with the second marker color.

Repeat drawing the curved arches in the rainbow colored markers until completed. Let one end of the rainbow be wide and sporadic and then have them come together on the other side tighter. This gives it the perfect "shooting star" look.

Step 2: Paint the Rainbow

Now use the Water Brush pen and go over the rainbow colored lines.

Step 2: Paint the Rainbow Now use the Water Brush pen and go over the rainbow colored lines.

This will cause the colors to run and bleed together into magic! This is my favorite part of any and every watercolor project. You just cannot plan on what the colors will do, but it's gorgeous!

I love the little gaps of white paper peeking through, the swirls of mixed colors and the jagged edges.

Okay, then let the rainbow dry completely...or use a blow dryer to dry it quickly.

Step 3: Cut the Rainbow

After the rainbow is dry, use scissors and cut out the rainbow. Follow the sporadic watercolor edges and cut right along it, leaving a little white edge around the rainbow is just fine.

Ooh, look at that blue splash of color on the purple stripe! It's divine--I love it!

Step 4: Glitter Stars

Now let's make some glitter stars to complete the shooting star rainbow look.

I found this star paper punch at the thrift store and bought it for like $4. I wasn't sure if it would get much use, but it was so nice for this project to just punch out 2 identical stars.

The minute you need a tool, it's already paid for itself!

Use the star punch, or a pattern and scissors, or a Cricut machine to cut out 2 identical gold glittery stars.

Then use the adhesive to glue one star to the top of the rainbow, right on the tight end of it.

And then glue the other star on the backside of it to add stability. You could also paint the other side of the paper before gluing, to make the cake topper reversible or beautiful from both sides.

Step 5: Add a Stick

Finally add the skewer to the backside of the rainbow with some tape. If you are making it reversible, you can put the stick between the star layers, so the top of it is hidden and it's symmetrical on both sides.

That's it!

This cute watercolor rainbow cake topper is ready to decorate your party table! Stick it in a cake, a cookie, cupcake, brownie stack, pie, or even a sandwich for the perfect celebration!

I had to cut my skewer shorter to go into just one brownie instead of trying to skewer the entire stack of brownies. So make the skewer the length you need for whatever you are inserting it into.

Ooh, it's just so cute and bright! I love how it turns a platter of brownies into something much more special! Perfect way to celebrate Friday, a birthday, April Fool's Day or just any day of the week!

Happy birthday to your daughter! We have girls almost the same age who fortunately for me like a lot of the same things, which saved me when they both loved my little pony and I needed party ideas😂
