How to Make a Paper Palm Leaf Cake Topper

Supplies Needed for Paper Palm Leaf:

Paper (lightweight paper is easiest, but metallic cardstock is gorgeous)
Scoring Board/Scoring Stylus
Wooden Dowel or Paper Straw
Hot Glue/Gun

Step 1: Scoring Paper

Begin by scoring the paper every 1/2 inch.

If you want a tighter accordion fold, you can go every 1/4 inch, but I wouldn't recommend it with thick cardstock.

Score the backside of the paper, rather than the top/metallic surface like pictured.

Step 2: Cut the Palm Shape

Now fold the scored paper in half. Then cut the top of the paper to the center fold in a curve to a point.

You basically want the top of the paper to look like St. Basil's Cathedral in the Kremlin or any cathedral architecture from this time period.

The way you cut the top edge will effect the shape of the palm, so you can experiment with different shapes to give more variety to your cake topper or home decor.
