How to Throw a Luau Tropical Party!

I love a great tropical vibe--and a luau party is the perfect way to celebrate!

Let me show you some simple ways to set up a tropical luau party!

Watercolor some hibiscus flowers, make tropical cupcakes and cookies, decorate with pineapple, shells and balloons. 

Let's get started!

Hibiscus flowers are my absolute favorite flower. I love the cheery colors and delicate features. Tropical hibiscus are divine--and make a great diy element to a luau tropical party.

Supplies Needed for Luau Tropical Party:

• Balloon Garland (full post here)
• Parrot Honeycomb
• Wood Beads
• Tropical Fruit Punch Drink 
• Cookies, Cupcakes, Treats
• Letterboard
• Beer Can Glasses
• Tropical Palm Leaves
• Hibiscus Watercolors

This Tropical Fruit Punch is the perfect drink! 

I learned how to make this on my trip to Turks and Caicos and it brings me back just with a sip. Such a great mocktail for a luau!

Make cupcakes and decorate them with colorful sprinkles. Think bright pinks, oranges and yellows!

Decorate sugar cookies the same way for a fun variety of treats with little extra effort!

Now let's make the watercolor hibiscus flower decorations for the easiest DIY decorations!

Supplies Needed for Watercolor Hibiscus:

• Watercolor Paper
• Tombow Dual Brush Pens
• Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen
• Painters Tape
• Paintbrush/water

Step 1: Hibiscus Flowers

Begin by taping the watercolor paper down on a worksurface.

Then use the Tombow Dual Brush Pens to draw a rough outline of a hibiscus flower. 

Then use the paintbrush and water to blend the colors together to create the perfect bleeds.

Let them dry.

Step 2: Hibiscus Flowers

After the paper is dry, use the Fudenosuke pen to outline the hibiscus shapes. 

Make the lines playful, uneven and sporadic for a whimsical look!

Finally, cut out all the flowers with a little white border around the edges.

Then use painters tape to hang the watercolor hibiscus flowers up on the wall, on balloons or on the table for your party!

These honeycomb parrots are the perfect addition to the party too!

I love the Macaw!

It's easy to do a 2 tone finish on the cupcakes by filling a piping bag with pink frosting on one side and orange frosting on the other side. 

Then when you squeeze the bag, they'll swirl together in a beautiful tropical twist!

Then just top the buttercream frosting cupcake and cookies with colorful sprinkles.

This luau tropical party could be adapted for a birthday, baby's first b-day, or just a fun work event!

Make cute cookies to match the cupcakes!

Cotton candy makes a great addition to a party table!
