Supplies Needed for Macrame Ornaments:


You could use a cinnamon stick too--for warm Christmasy scent!

Supplies Needed for Macrame Ornaments:  Natural Cotton Macrame Cord (2 pieces 24" long and 1 piece 12" long) 4-5 inch Stick (or you can use these wood rings) You could use a cinnamon stick too--for warm Christmasy scent!

Step 1: How to make Macrame Ornament


Start by cutting a stick about the size of a finger...4-5 inches long and about 1/2" in diameter. 


  • Cut 2 pieces of cord 24 inches long


  • Cut 1 piece of cord 12 inches long


If you are teaching a group or class, having this done ahead of time is a huge time saver!

Begin tying the macrame by folding the 24 inch pieces of cord in half. Tie a Larks Head (or Girth Hitch) with each cord around the stick.

Put the loop of the center of the cord behind the stick, then wrap the tails of the cord over the stick and through the loop. Pull tight.

Make a loop with the cords on the left over the cords on the right.

Next, loop wrap the right cords up over the tails of the looped left cords.

Take the right tails and tuck them under the cords of the left larks head then up through the space between the right larks head.

Step 3: Make Macrame Ornament


Now take the 12 inch cord and tie it with a larks head in between the original 2 knots. Tie the ends together and pull it upright for hanging on the tree or on a gift.

Then tie the cord ends with an overhand knot about 1-2 inches from the end. Use a hook tool or comb to fray the cord ends for a fun tassel finish.
