How to Make a Rhinestone Encrusted Star Ornament!
Turn a metal star from the dollar store into a gorgeous rhinestone encrusted ornament!
This sparkly ornament encrusted with bling is the perfect addition to the tree, an ornament on the table or a oppulent handmade gift for a friend!
Sure, this picture is pretty great. It's sparkly and looks covered in bling.
But, let me tell you. Up close, irl, this thing is amazing!
It's oppulent and glittery!
It's shimmery and glistening!
Covering something in rhinestones may seem daunting--but actually it's so fun. It's theraputic. It's simple. It's a very fulfilling craft and surprisingly it doesn't take long!
Supplies Needed for Rhinestone Encrusted Star:
- Galvanized Metal Star (Dollar Tree)
- Various Beads
- AB Crystal Rhinestones in 5 sizes
- Crystal AB Rhinestones in 12 shapes
- Crystal Rhinestones (ss20 size)
- Beacon GemTac
- Rhinestone Picker Pencil
Step 1: Preparing the Star
Begin by removing the store tag and the twine cord from the galvanized star.
The Dollar store sells these galvanized plaques in several different shapes, including a butterfly! They would all work and look gorgeous!
Step 2: Base Layer
Open the GemTac glue and squeeze some out in the inside of the star.
The Beacon GemTac is permanent adhesive that dries completely clear. It's workable for a while, so there's no panic attack when gluing.
Then fill the inside of the star with various beads. I used beads from my old time collection. Some were leftovers from other projects.
Work in small sections so the glue doesn't dry while you are working on one corner.
The glue remains liquid for a while, so moving the beads around to fit better is easy.
Fill the entire base of the star with as many beads as you can.
Then let the glue dry completely.
Step 3: Add Rhinestones!
Now that the beads are in the base and are dry, begin gluing rhinestones in every little space possible.
Use this opportunity to cover any bead holes with little sparkly rhinestones.
This part is fun because there's always room for more rhinestones!
You need to decide how full you want the inside to be. This has a very geode-like vibe!
Then repeat the process and absolutely fill the inside edges with sparkly rhinestones!
Then let the glue dry completely and add it to your Christmas tree, entry table decor or as part of the perfect handmade gift!
That's it!
This rhinestone encrusted star just took about 1 hour to make! It's a fun thing to make while listening to Christmas music or having a movie on in the background!
