How to Rhinestone Shoes!
Make the most gorgeous rhinestone shoes with aurora borealis gemstones!
These stunning shoes are just what you need to wear to ring in the new year! I love wearing all kinds of sparkle--and New Year's Eve is the perfect excuse!
Just a couple hours and a pile of rhinestones is all it takes to take shoes from drab to fab!
Learn how to make rhinestone shoes for the perfect upgrade to a pair of shoes!
I had these gently used Dansko maryjane type shoes and decided to give them an upgrade. I really do like the shoes--they are super comfortable!
They weren't too worn out but I knew they'd get more use if they had some bling!
These shoes worked great because I could just do the rhinestones across the front strap and not worry about the heel or buckle straps...more of a color blocked look.
These shoes took about 2 hours to bling--one hour each shoe!
You could bling converse or canvas shoes--stilletos or pumps--or even some flip flops!
Supplies Needed for Rhinestone Shoes:
- AB Crystal Rhinestones in 5 sizes
- Crystal AB Rhinestones in 12 shapes
- Crystal Rhinestones (ss20 size)
- Shoes to upcycle (mine are Dansko)
- Beacon GemTac
- Rhinestone Picker Pencil
Step 1: Set Up!
Begin by setting up the workspace.
I started with an organizing tray but ended up just pouring rhinestone on the tables.
Step 2: GemTac!
Next open up the bottle of GemTac Adhesive and squeeze little dots or lines onto the shoe where you want the rhinestones to start.
Step 3: Rhinestones!
Then continue adhering rhinestones to the adhesive in small sections. The glue dries completely clear, so no worries about it showing.
Add the special shaped rhinestones in here and there. I like the slight variety when looking at the shoes close.
There's no need to measure or plan ahead. Just start sticking rhinestones in the adhesive and then shift them slightly around as needed.
The rhinestone picker pencil is slightly tacky on the "writing" tip, so you can stick it to the rhinestone and lift it into place with a simple technique.
No need to use your fingers to fit tiny gems into the right place. The pencil really is a time saver!
The bulk of the shoes were covered in the rhinestones that are size ss20. I used some slightly larger ones here and there.
Then used smaller ones to fit in and around the larger ones, filling in gaps and holes as I went.
I have lots of rhinestones left over too--surprisingly, these shoes didn't make much of a dent in my piles of gemstones pictured.
Finish up rhinestoning one shoe and move on to the next shoe.
Let the glue dry completely. It will dry clear.
I love the black leather and aurora borealis finish on the rhinestones together!
I'm super excited about these shoes and love how they look on my feet too! Do you have a pair of shoes that needs some bling!?
Can't wait to wear them on New Year's Eve too!
