The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Party!
Today is my birthday--My 42nd birthday as a matter of fact!
I just had to take advantage of my age, since it is the answer to life, the universe and everything.
This quick party is easy to just throw together with free printables and simple supplies for a meaningful birthday to celebrate the ultimate age, forty-two.
I grew up in a very logical family with a love for sci-fi. My dad raised us on Doctor Who, Star Wars, Blakes 7 and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I knew my family would be the only ones, apart from my fandom weirdo's on the internet, that could appreciate my party theme. Leave me a comment if you are a sci-fi nerd that loves parties like this!
If you or a geeky loved one are nearing that magic 42 birthday, this party is a total shew in. It's simple to set up!
“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.” --The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Step 1: Decorations for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Party
Make some easy handmade decorations by either printing off my FREE PRINTABLES or just writing some fun Douglas Adams sayings on cardstock. Cut them out with scissors.
So long and thanks for all the fish!
That's a good name--ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?
Step 2: Dolphin and Whale Cake Toppers
I found the dolphin toy and the whale (I realize it's not quite a sperm whale, but I found a whale) at the dollar store.
Use a drill and a drill bit to bore a hole through the aquatic animals the size of the wooden dowel or skewer you have.
Slide the dowel through the holes and hot glue the dowel in place on the top and bottom of the sea creature.
Hot glue the little text bubbles on the top section of the dowel.
Cut the dowels to the correct length for the cake or dessert. My cake was tall, so I use the full sticks.
Step 3: Set up the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Party!
Stagger the cake toppers so the fish look playful and like they are chatting with each other.
Make a pot of petunias cake or brownie topper too! The petunias' final thought "oh no, not again"
Write up a saying or two on a letter board, poster or marquee sign.
The answer to life, the universe and everything--42!
Don't Panic!
I displayed my copy of the 1st book of the guide, since I have it.
Add a little bowl of goldfish crackers for the perfect babel fish.
“The Babel fish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy received not from its own carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with." --The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Final suggestion:
Don't Panic!
"I like the cover: Don't Panic. It's the first helpful or intelligible thing anybody's said to me all day!" --Arthur Dent
That's it!
I hope my fellow sci-fi nerds enjoy this Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Party!
What are things you would add to this party?
What foods would you serve?
Maybe you could get a depressed robot to come to the party!
