How to Make Rhinestone Hair Clips!
I love sparkly things! These rhinestone hair clips are easy to make and make a super chic statement.
Make the perfect accessory with a few rhinestones, some adhesive and just a little bit of time.
If you've wanted to try adding rhinestones to things--but don't want to be overwhelmed, this is the perfect place to start!
These dazzling rhinestone hair clips make a great handmade gift, a fun girls night out craft, a great party favor--or just for fun!
I love the aurora borealis shimmery finish on these rhinestones, so that's what I gravitate towards.
However, you can make these with any/or a variety of color, shade of finish of rhinestone or gem.
Each hair clip set only took me about 5 minutes to make. I had such a fun time making them, I spent most of the afternoon doing it--then I had tons of sparkly hairclips to give away to friends and family!
Supplies Needed for Rhinestone Hair Clips:
- Hair Clips (I love these gold ones and these silver ones)
- AB Crystal Rhinestones in 5 sizes
- Crystal AB Rhinestones in 12 shapes (if desired)
- Crystal Rhinestones (ss20 size)
- Beacon GemTac
- Rhinestone Picker Pencil
Step 1: Set Up Workspace!
Beacon GemTac Adhesive is permanent and perfect for all your rhinestone blinging needs. It comes in a squeeze bottle perfect for adhering directly to the desired surface.
Begin by setting up your workspace. Dump a few rhinestones out on the table and store the adhesive on it's side, so it's ready to squeeze out.
Step 2: Adhesive
Squeeze a bead of adhesive on the top of the hair clip. Work in small sections so the glue doesn't dry while you are working.
This isn't much of an issue with hair clips--but with bigger surfaces.
Step 3: Rhinestone Time!
Use the rhinestone picker, it's a very light tack pencil that allows you to pick up the rhinestones without using clumsy fingers. This is a game changer.
Then place rhinestones on the clip in the adhesive and the picker will easily release the rhinestone.
Continue adding rhinestones to the hair clip until the desired coverage is achieved.
You may want them on the just the edge or around the entire thing.
You decide!
These hair clips are perfect for the ss20 size rhinestone.
Rhinestone sizes can be varied though!
Step 4: Drying Time!
Lastly, let the hair clips dry completely and the glue cure. The adhesive will be clear when dry. I let mine dry overnight, but at least 4 hours.
Repeat the process for a second clip--if you are like me and like pairs. Or just make a bunch of them to gift, sell or share.
Now the rhinestone hair clips are ready to gift, wear and enjoy!
These would make a great Valentine's day gift for a friend, or to wear on a fun date night!

Childhood Story:
When I was little, I think about 3 or 4 years old, my mom would have me sleep with those pink foamy curlers in my hair. Then I could have an amazing, fluffy afro the next day.
I loved my curly hair.
My mom also told me around the same age that I should never comb my hair unless I got the comb wet.
So, one time, immediately after my mom had taken my curlers out and got my hair all fluffed and beautiful, and then left...I decided I wanted to comb my hair to see how it "felt".
I dipped a comb into water and began combing my curls out with water.
I completely ruined those curls...and my mom asked why I did it.
I told her I wanted a chance to comb it, and she had told me before to always use water.
So she couldn't really argue that with me.
Okay, if you made it through my childhood story, thanks. Haha--back to rhinestone hair clips.
I guess I bring up my childhood because I would have loved these fancy rhinestone hair clips when I was little.
I loved everything sparkly and shimmery then--and I still do now!
Here's a pair of clips using the different shapes of rhinestones. I love how it turned out.
That's it!
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you've ever wanted to give blinging something a try, this is a great place to start!
