How to Make a Laser Cut Ornate Frame!
I just want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares!
Learn how easy it is to make a beautiful ornate frame with the xTool M1 Laser Cutting Machine.
I have been loving my xTool M1 laser cutting machine that was gifted to me. It's opened up a whole new world of crafting to me. I love it!
This frame is 5 layers of 3mm basswood.
This frame can be painted, if you like that sort of thing...lol. I love natural wood.
I love the gorgeous wood grains and the burned laser cut borders.
Painting over them is not my thing...but it would still look gorgeous if that's your thing.
Supplies Needed for Laser Cut Ornate Frame:
- xTool M1 Everything Bundle
- 3mm Basswood
- xTool Creative Space Software
- Design Bundles Frame File (I used frame #21)
- Wood Glue
Step 1: Import into XCS
Import the frame file into the xTool Creative Space. I resized mine so it would fit on my basswood, this makes the final frame opening 4.5x6 instead of 5x7.
Once scaled and split into separate files, send each frame layer to the xTool and have it cut them out.
Note: Be sure to keep watch while the xTool is cutting your materials.
This piece of basswood caught on fire while cutting this intricate file.
I easily blew the fire out, discarded the burnt basswood and recut the file.
Step 2: Glue Together
Use school glue or wood glue.
If there are any places where the frame broke along the grain, just glue them back together and use some painters tape to hold it in place firmly while drying.
Then glue all the layers of the frame together.
I did things a little backwards...so follow along to my words, and not my pictures.
Begin by gluing the layers of the frame together.
Start with the back piece (don't glue the photo box on the back yet--save that for the last step).
I glued 2 pieces at a time and set a book on them while they dried...giving them about an hour to dry.
Then after gluing all the intricate layers together, glue the back photo box pieces on the back of the frame.
This forms the perfect box for adding glass and photos, as well as the stand that can be inserted to stand horizontally or vertically.
I love DesignBundles and FontBundles.
They offer loads of files for free all the time.
I bought the Luscious Laser Bundle, that includes the $49 layered frame bundle, as well as loads of other awesome laser cut files---for only $15.
Get it now, the deal only lasts 1 more week!!!
These files can be cut out of paper or cardstock on the Cricut too!
Step 3: Display
Now that the frame is all glued together it looks amazing!
The design is genius--it all fits together perfectly and has the box on the back for the photo insert.
I write so many calligraphy sentiments and this frame is perfect for displaying a new mantra or phrase every day!
