Make a Yipee Cake Topper for a Cartoon Cake!
Cartoon cakes are totally on trend and this comic book style cake topper is the perfect way to say Yipee!
Learn how simple it is to laser cut wood using the xTool M1. It's the perfect household laser cutter for crafters.
This cake topper is easy to make, was my original design and tool less than 30 minutes to complete! Yipee!
I had my very talented friend, Something Special Custom Cakes, make me the cake to match. I love how it turned out.
I am having so much fun with my new xTool M1 laser cutter.
I love how quickly and cleanly it cuts through wood.
The M1 is the perfect laser cutter for crafters because it has a diode laser and a knife blade, so all types of materials can be used.
Supplies Needed for Yipee Comic Book Cake Topper:
Step 1: Import Files
Open up XCS on your computer and import the 3 image files...or just open up the XCS file.
If you upload the XCS file, it should have the purple cut-out lines on the outside edge of the topper and the YIPEE!
If you imported the image files, you'll need to select each one and select cut or engrave (for the dots)
Step 2: Process!
Once the basswood has been placed in the machine, on the triangular prisms, and you've double checked that the image is right where you want it...and that it cuts some of it and engraves some of it...
Then press the process button.
A screen will pop up and tell you to press the machine button.
Doing this will start the engraving process on the basswood.
After the engraving, the xTool will cut the cake topper and letters out.
I watch the whole time in complete fascination!
This cake topper would be awesome in natural wood and just glued together.
Usually I leave things totally natural...but this time I did add some color.
Step 3: Color!
I wanted the Yipee to match the cake.
I used Tombow ABT PRO Alcohol Based Makers and colored the letters in ombre teals.
They work great on the wood, leaving a slight wood grain, so it's more like staining.
I outlined the comic book splat shape in red.
Then I switched to the Posca Paint Markers and outlined the letters and cake topper in black.
Then add the white highlight parts with a white paint marker too.
Then I painted the background of the comic book cake topper in yellow.
Finally add some white highlights to the background of the cake topper.
Step 4: Hot Glue
Now use a hot glue gun to glue the letter pieces to the background of the cake topper.
You can pick any word, phrase or name you like.
I did YIPEE! so I can use it all year round for every celebration.
That's it!
This laser cut cake topper is perfect for a cartoon cake or a simple cake or doughnut!
The xTool M1 laser cutting machine is perfect for making so many things.
It's perfect for handmade gifts, starting a small business or side hustle, and even just making a cake topper minutes before its needed.
A friend once told me that she was not good at crafting.
I told her "you are only as good as your supplies".
It's totally true.
If you have an awesome laser cutter, your crafting caliber is way high!
Imagine the things you could create with your own laser cutter!
