How to Make a Guitar Pick Holder with xTool
Make an acoustic guitar pick holder in under an hour with the xTool M1 Laser Cutting Machine.
I love my xTool and use it regularly.
If you have a DIY dad, chances are high that he wants an xTool M1 Laser Cutting Machine of his own for Father's day!
It's super versatile, easy to set up and use, and I'm always thrilled and amazed by what I create.
This guitar guitar pick holder is a great handmade gift for Father's Day!
Do you have a guitar player in your family?
My dad took 2 years of piano and then his parents let him switch instruments. He played the trumpet, trombone and the French horn.
He learned that he could practice and play regularly and still not get very good at it.
He's really into math, computer science and engineering.
My husband is an acoustic guitar player.
He absolutely loves this acoustic guitar pick holder I made and wants to make some for his friends too!
Supplies Needed for Guitar Pick Holder:
- xTool M1 Everything Bundle
- 3mm Basswood
- xTool Creative Space Software
- Guitar Pick Laser Cut File from Design Bundles
- Easel Laser Cut File free
- Paint and Resin (if desired)
- Wood Glue
- Guitar Picks
Step 1: Laser Cutting
Begin by setting up the file on the xcs laser cutting software.
Set the basswood inside the xTool M1 and the camera will capture an image of the inside so you can properly align the image on the basswood.
The guitar pick file comes with several images.
Select the tall 3 pick guitar with the neck and pair it with the 3 pick body for the backside of the guitar pick holder.
You'll have 2 tall pieces and 2 short pieces cut.
Then begin the process.
It will score, engrave and then cut the designated lines.
Once the cutting is finished, the machine will beep.
Keep an eye on your project as it cuts, as it is a potential fire hazard. (ask me how I know this 😬 )
Then you can lift the lid and remove the finished pieces.
I save all the scraps too--because you never know when you'll have the perfect size project to fit.
Step 2: Paint, Resin and Glue
After the project is cut, you can paint and decorate it however you like.
I just painted the pick guard on the guitar and then did a light coating of resin over the front of the design.
If using resin, let the resin cure for 24 hours before continuing.
Then use wood glue to adhere the pieces together.
Glue the 2 tall pieces together and the 2 short pieces together.
Let the glue dry.
I set a sturdy book on top of my pieces so they would dry without any warping.
That's it!
Making this laser cut guitar pick holder is fast, easy and super cool!
I love giving handmade gifts that are unique and useful!
This is a great gift for a guitar lover!
