Make 3D Sublimation Tumblers with WALAPress Sublimation Oven
Making sublimation tumblers is so much fun!
3D designs are so easy and simple to put on a sublimation tumbler.
Learn how easy it is to put a 3D design on a sublimation tumbler using the Sublimation WALAPress Oven from Heat Transfer Warehouse.
One can never have too many tumblers right!? 😉 😂
I'm thinking of my darling sister-in-law who does not need nor even want another tumbler in her life, ever.
Anyway, they are fun to make, so they are a natural companion to every gift basket, Back-to-School teacher gift or Bridesmaid "I do crew" gift.
They are so fast and simple to make, they really are the perfect last minute gift! I'm looking at me here--I tend to put off gift making until the last minute and my sublimation printer and oven always come in and save me.
The Sublimation WALAPress Oven from Heat Transfer Warehouse is really a must-have tool for sublimation. It's on sale right now too--so it's the perfect time to add this to your arsenal!
I've used the Cricut Mug Press, which is a disaster for tumblers.
I've used and liked the Orange Hitprex Tumbler Heat Press on this Mario Brothers Tumbler and it worked great...but the tumbler heat press only works with specific sized tumblers.
So, if you are looking into doing a lot of different sized tumblers, mugs, carafes, camping mugs, etc...the Sublimation Oven is great.
You can also use it for coasters, ceramic ornaments, keychains and more...they just need to be shrink wrapped so the image is pressed firmly in place during the heat process.

Supplies Needed for 3D Sublimation Tumblers:
- Sublimation Blank 20 Ounce Skinny Tumblers
- WALAPress Sublimation Oven
- Tumbler Shrink Wrap
- Heat Gun
- Epson Ecotank Printer Converted to Sublimation (see this post here)
- 3D Design from Design Bundles (this bundle has 10 adorable vacation designs)
- Heat Resistant Tape
Step 1: Print and Trim
Begin by printing off your desired 3D vacation design after reversing the image. (this is not necessary if there is no text or photographs, but I do it anyway)
This bundle is designed for 20 ounce tumblers, so there is no need to resize anything!
Then trim the edges so the sublimation can come together seamlessly.
Step 2: Tape
Clean the tumbler off with a lint roller or tape and then wrap the sublimation print around it.
Make sure the top is at the top of the tumbler and the bottom at the base.
Then tape the seam together as tightly as you can.
Then tape every single seam together.
Do you have to tape every single part of the tumbler?
No...but yes.
The tape holds the image down tightly so the sublimation turns out crisp.
If it's not all taped down, it can be faded.
So I just tape it completely because I don't want my "cheapness" to be the reason the whole thing turned out bad.
Roll the paper slightly at the base and top so that it curves with the shape of the tumbler and then tape it all in place too.
Continue until all the edges of the sublimation paper are completely taped down to the tumbler.
Step 3: Shrink Wrap
Now slip a shrink wrap over the tumbler and use the heat gun to melt it down tightly.
Step 4: Sublimation Oven
Now set the tumbler in the sublimation oven basket.
Set the upper and lower dials to the same (or as close as possible) temperature.
365*F for the 20 ounces skinny tumblers.
Set the timer for 6 minutes and press the timer button to start.
The sublimation will get to temperature pretty fast and then it will beep and begin the timer countdown.
Once it is done, turn off the oven and let the tumblers cool down before handling.
Step 5: Reveal!
Now for the best part of the craft--the reveal!
It is so satisfying and terrifying to remove all the wrappings.
I get nervous because I want it to work out perfectly--and guess what!?
They did!
The 3D sublimation tumblers were a success!
They look vivid and awesome!
The seam lines up perfectly for a flawless finish!
I did two of the vacation designs, the flamingo and the palm trees.
Which design is your favorite?
Perfect tropical tumblers for an icy beverage on a hot day!
We've been in the triple digits here lately and boy is it hot!
That's it!
The sublimation oven really is an awesome heat tool to have in the craft stash.
I love how well these sublimation tumblers turned out with the 3D design from Design Bundles and the excellent sublimation blanks from Heat Transfer Warehouse.
Both of these gorgeous tumblers are ready for a hot Summer day!
