Plaid Konnectz Plant Stand Painting DIY
Paint this super chic and modern plant stand from Plaid Konnectz with Bright Magenta Apple Barrel acrylic craft paint and give it some gold leafing for shine!
I love a budget friendly and quick project!
Plaid Crafts has two awesome Konnectz kits, available at Walmart, for an awesome price!
One is a bird house and one is this modern plant stand.
They are flat pack and easy to just click together after painting.

This plant stand measures 10 inches across and 10 inches tall.
The area where the plant pot fits inside is 8 inches across.
The bucket I have is nearly perfect...but my adorable little Swiss Cheese Monstera is not quite big enough yet.
I'm excited for her to grow big and fluffy and fill this bucket.
*Fun Fact: I used to eat dirt as a child. Yep. I would grab handfuls of dirt from our houseplants and eat it. I am pretty sure I had some kind of mineral deficiency...but my parents seemed okay with it.
It was the 80's after all. My favorite dirt had the little white perlite and vermiculite pieces in it. Lol.
I still absolutely love to smell dirt...and yes, I've tasted it as an adult too. It's just like my childhood mind remembers.
Supplies Needed for Plaid Konnectz Plant Stand Painting:
- Plaid Konnectz Plant Stand (available at Walmart)
- Plaid Apple Barrel Matte Paint (I picked Bright Magenta)
- Paintbrush
- Gold Leaf
- Gold Leaf Gilding Adhesive
- Old Paintbrush (disposable)
- Stiff Paintbrush
Step 1: Konnectz Plant Stand
Open up the plant stand and you'll find nearly 2 identical pieces of mdf wood.
Except the cutout in the center is different.
This way you can easily slide the top piece into the bottom piece.
Step 2: Paint the Konnectz Plant Stand
Set the Konnectz Plant Stand wood pieces on a disposable surface and paint them.
Paint the top, edges and backside.
The matte paint is awesome and dries pretty fast.
Set the plant stand pieces up on other bottles of paint while the edges dry to prevent them from sticking on the work surface.
Step 3: Gold Leaf Adhesive
After the plant stand is completely dry, click it together.
I like adding the gold leaf while it's fully assembled, so some of the gold leaf can connect the pieces and it looks intentional.
Use an old (disposable) paintbrush to brush on some of the gold leaf adhesive.
Every little stroke of glue will allow gold leaf to stick to it.
The gold leaf will not stick anywhere but where the adhesive is...but the gold leaf will also show all the little paintbrush marks too, so take your time and be loose yet intentional.
Add adhesive to all 4 sides of the Konnectz Plant Stand and then allow it to dry completely.
Step 4: Gold Leaf
After the adhesive is completely dry, place sheets of gold leaf over the adhesive.
Press them on with your finger.
Pull off pieces of unattached gold leaf and place it on the next spot of adhesive.
Once every bit of the adhesive is covered, hold your plant stand over the trash can and use the stiff paintbrush to gently brush away all the excess gold leaf.
Yes, this part is like fluffy glitter in the air.
I place my item completely down inside a clean garbage bag to try to contain all the excess gold leaf.
I absolutely love the look of gold leaf!
I love how the Apple Barrel paint is matte and the gold leaf is so shimmery and shiny.
It's the perfect combination!
Now the Plaid Konnectz Plant Stand is ready to fill and enjoy!
This is a great statement piece on a hard wood floor by the window or up on a entry table or mantle.
If the plant stand isn't for you, maybe the Birdhouse is your thing!
This cute stand does not only work for plants!
It would be a cute way to store office supplies, even a small trash can, a bouquet of fresh cut flowers, a fruit or serving bowl and more!
This Plaid Konnectz Plant Stand is a fun Summer craft for kids too.
The kits are perfect, no guess work involved.
Just paint and click together.
Perfect for kids at Summer camp, boredom busters or for an adult girls night out or crafternoon!
That's it!
