First off, I totally love painting rocks.

Here's a little personal data about me:

Painting rocks outside on our picnic table as a 6 year old kid with my mom is one of my favorite crafting memories.

Our neighbor across the street had rock scaped parking strip instead of grass.

We'd just go over and take a pile of rocks to paint, with their permission probably.

I remember my favorite rock I ever painted was with a solid black base, and brightly colored flowers.
I try to recreate that all the time!

Here's a post showcasing my first ever painted rocks--and the one my mom painted for me!

If you haven't painted rocks before, it's such a fun medium and canvas to try--plus it is really inexpensive and I call that a win-win!

Great craft for all skill levels and ages...take a nature walk and collect some smooth round stones, then clean them off, let them dry in the sunshine and finally, paint them!

Rock crafts are the best!

Here's a few posts of mine showing off the fun of painted rocks:

What are Drapery Hooks:

Drapery hooks, also known as pinch pleat clips are small stainless steel devices used to attach curtains, drapes or shower curtain to curtain rods.

They typically consist of a sharp point or a curved end that allows them to be easily inserted into the cotton fabric of the curtain.

Drapery hooks are designed to slide through the heading or top of the curtain, catching onto the curtain rings, traverse rods or directly onto the drapery rod.

I know my mother-in-law has sheer curtains as her window treatments that use these specific drapery pins...I think she found some at a yard sale in an unprinted box a long time ago!

Personally, I prefer blackout curtains over my new window on curtain rods (not a fan of tension rods).

What about you? What's your preferred window treatment?

Supplies Needed for Rock Display Easels:

Delivery times are so fast these days--I ordered these on Monday and got them on Tuesday!
Not sure how easy they are to find at a retail store.

2 drapery hooks turned display easel stands holding painted rocks, one very large and painted black with pink flowers. One is smaller and painted with Plaid drizzle pour paints

Step 1: Easel Rock Stand

Begin by removing a drapery hook from the plastic bag.

Notice there are 4 pins and a center hook.

Gently bend the center hook wire back about 2 inches, this will be the leg of the easel that creates the pitch or angel at which the rock (or other item) sits.

Step 1: Easel Rock Stand

Step 2: Spread the Pins

Now spread the 2 pins on the edges gently apart about 2-3 inches.

This will depend on the size of your rock or display item, as you can make these absolutely custom for the item that will rest on it.

The stainless steel is easy to manipulate, but don't over bend the wires or there is a possibility of them snapping.

Step 2: Spread the Pins

Then repeat the same process with the 2 middle pins.

Spread them apart gently with your hands to have them span about 1-1.5 inches apart.

Then repeat the same process with the 2 middle pins.

Step 3: Round Nose Pliers

Now use the round nose pliers to gently "round" the 2 middle pin wires to fit the shape of the rock or other desired display item.

Work carefully, as the stainless steel does mar pretty easily, so make small, smooth bends.

Step 3: Round Nose Pliers

Use the pliers to grasp the wire and gently round the wire into a hook shape.

Use the pliers to grasp the wire and gently round the wire into a hook shape.

The perfect way to get the best hook shape is to just bend a little, move the pliers up about 1/4" and gently bend again.

Repeat this procedure until the appropriate hook shape is achieved to securely cradle the undamaged item beautifully.

The perfect way to get the best hook shape is to just bend a little, move the pliers up about 1/4" and gently bend again.

Repeat the hook sculpting process for the second pin.

It does not have to have the same hook shape, it can be completely unique to fit the shape of the rock or other knick-knack display item.

Repeat the hook sculpting process for the second pin.

Alright, the little drape supports have become a rock display easel!

See how perfect these work for shelf sitting displays?

See how it rests on 3 legs and can support the weight of such a big rock!?

This is such a cool addition to painted rocks!

If you make lots of artwork, painted rocks or other display items--add a custom easel and some original packaging for the perfect product to sell or handmade gift!

This could also be used as a fun display for giving gift cards for birthdays or holidays!

I love the window of possibilities this opens for me!

I always have items I want to display off the table--this takes up different space than the full rock on the table.

This style of handmade DIY easel is perfect for name card place settings too!

Simply write out names on a square base paper, layer it as much as desired and prop it up on the easel.

Perfect for displaying handmade cards (like this happy birthday card) too!

There's always those times I need a small easel for something and I didn't have the solution until I saw someone post about this on the facebook group 801 Rocks (for Utah rock painting and hiding).

I love these little easels and will happily promote them--and I'm sure I'll use them on other posts on Doodlecraft in the future too!

They are easy to make, surprisingly well balanced and totally budget friendly--about 17 cents each easel!
