DIY Wedding Harry Potter Hogwarts House Banners
Planning the most epic Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed wedding, Prom or event?
These gorgeous house crest banners are the perfect way to separate tables for guests.
Sort the group into their common room and have them sit at the table they are sorted in.
Supplies Needed for Hogwarts House Banners:
- Canvas Blank Banners from Oriental Trading (Gifted from Oriental Trading for this post)
- Gold flex foil Iron-On
- Cricut Maker 3
- HTVRont Auto Heat Press (more on this post)
- Cricut Design Space
Images: I purchased these images (at a nondiscounted price) in a bundle from Cricut Design Space--I love how all 5 of them match perfectly and have a very thin-line, whimsical vibe.
Search for branded images, Warner Bros, and see what Harry Potter crests they have.
I don't know if these are still available...since they show up in my CDS because I purchased them.
Step 1: Gold Foil Iron-on
Size the images to fit on the blank banners.
Reverse the image, place the iron on with the gold side down on the mat, and insert into the Cricut machine.
Then have the machine cut out each image.
I used a large mat and was able to fit all 5 images on one surface for easy cutting...I sized them all the same size, but didn't realize it would make Hufflepuff so much smaller lookin than the others, so in future I will size that one up a bit.
You can make them whatever size you desire.
Then remove the foil iron-on from the mat and cut each image apart.
Step 2: Weed Vinyl
Use the hook tool to weed the excess iron-on vinyl from the designs.
I love weeding iron-on vinyl, it's so smooth, it stretches, it's divine.
If you have a light pad, that can help for seeing weeding lines.
These are delicate lines but give it such an elegant look for a wedding or formal event.
Step 3: Banners
The banners from Oriental Trading are lightweight canvas.
They come with a stick in the top and a nylon rope hanger, but they are wrinkled and easy to iron.
The original price makes these a great blank for an event project, less than $10 for 6 banners.
Make sure you are happy with the size of the iron-on on the banner.
I love the classic canvas and gold...these will look fabulous at the wedding!
Step 4: Heat Press
I'm using my HTVRont Auto Heat Press because it made it so easy for this project, an EasyPress works too.
Just heat up the heat press to 315* F and set the timer to 30 seconds.
Place the banner on the platen and press for 30 seconds to iron the banner completely flat and smooth for the best results when it comes to the iron-on.
Then place the iron-on cut out plastic side up on the banner blank.
Cover with a piece of teflon, butcher paper or parchment paper and then press for 30 seconds.
I love how easy it is to use the auto heat press.
Just click the button, it presses and lifts when its done.
I didn't need any additional pressure or a different pressing mat for this project, it just worked perfectly.
Let the banner cool down before peeling off the carrier sheet.
Then peel and roll it off the design.
Now the banner is ready to hang in the common room!
I love how classy and elegant they turned out!
I can't wait for you to see them in a formal wedding setting!
