How to Make Harry Potter Golden Snitch DIY FREE SVG
If you are a Harry Potter fan, you will love this simple Harry Potter fun craft!
Make a DIY Golden Snitch tealight candle holder, perfect for a Harry Potter party, wedding or special event!
Video Tutorial in this post too--if you prefer to watch it quickly!
These golden snitches are easy to make with a Cricut Maker, the file I designed and just a bit of hot glue.
I designed these for a magical Harry Potter themed wedding.
I love how classy and expensive they look and how completely easy they are to make and very economical.
I've been seeing some really awesome Harry Potter parties and can't wait to show you my full wedding set up.
The metal votives are perfect and available from Oriental Trading, who sent them to me in exchange for this post.
Supplies Needed for Harry Potter Golden Snitch Tea Lights:
- Gold Metal Votive Candle Holders (from Oriental Trading)
- Gold Cardstock
- Cricut Maker 3
- Golden Snitch Wing File (Free for personal use at the end of this post)
- Hot Glue gun or Glue dot
- Tea lights
- Rice (optional)
- Heat Pen (or a Hair dryer)
- Goo Gone
Step 1: Remove Stickers
Each of the 12 votives has a sticker right on the bottom...why oh, why does there have to be a big, hard to remove, sticker on everything!?
I used a heat pen (or hair dryer) to heat up the sticker directly and then the sticker peels off a little easier...still leave a little residue behind though.
Then wipe the excess residue off with some goo gone and a napkin or cloth.
It's a little more work to remove all the safety labels, but it's totally worth it to have clean metal votives.
If you pick up some votives from the dollar tree you can spray paint them gold too.
Step 2: Cricut Maker 3
Save off my free wing file at the end of the post and upload it into Cricut Design Space.
Place the gold cardstock on the mat and set the Cricut to cut it out.
Make one set of wings for each of the golden snitches.
The wings are lined up so that the adhere to the votive in the center of the wing.
I actually glued them the opposite way and you'll see that in the next steps.
Remove the mat from the Cricut and carefully remove the wings from the mat.
These metal votive holders are the perfect size for a golden snitch.
They fit one little tea light perfectly.
If you are using these for an event, wedding or Harry Potter Birthday Party, the votive can be filled with plain white rice and the candle will stick up a little higher so the glow is visible.
These perfect little Golden Snitch wings can also be used on Ferrero Rocher chocolates for the perfect little edible snitch!
Finding the perfect Golden Snitch wings was not easy...in the end I had to design the file myself, so it would be high quality for cutting...and I'm giving it to you for FREE! (end of the post)
I love all things Harry Potter, so it was well worth it!
Most searches just kept bringing up angel wings...which are not the same thing!
Step 3: Hot Glue Wings
Now use a hot glue gun or even glue dots to adhere the golden snitch wings to the metal votives.
At this point, I realized the wings fit the votives better if I reversed them...so they aren't exactly Quidditch Game regulation standard, but the look is still absolutely golden snitch.
Place the wing on the votive so it comes out of the side of the snitch.
The first wing is pretty easy to place...it's the second wing that needs a little more attention.
Then line up the second wing, leaving about an inch or a little bit more between the wings.
And fan of the Harry Potter series will be absolutely thrilled with these--they look so good!
Step 4: Repeat
Now make as many little golden snitches as you desire.
I'm planning these for a Harry Potter themed wedding, so having some on all the tables is an absolute must.
I love that I was able to find these perfect little votives from Oriental Trading for this craft.
Now the best part!
They just need a battery operated tea light placed in them.
Again, if you want the ambiance to glow a little more brightly, fill half the votive with rice so the tea light sits up higher inside the votive.
These are the perfect Harry Potter craft that is also really elegant and classy.
I love the gold on gold and the glowing candle light.
I'll be sharing more Harry Potter party ideas all next week and can't wait to show you how I used these little Golden Snitches!
These are great little shelf sitters and table scatter...but they can also be transformed into Golden Snitch Ornaments for a Christmas Tree.
Use a drill bit to drill a small hole in the top back of the votive.
Then put a piece of wire or a straight pin through the hole and make a hook.
Then the snitch can hang easily in the tree and add extra candle light.
It takes just a little time to make really classy and stunning Harry Potter Golden Snitches.
These DIY Golden Snitch lights are perfect for a Magical themed wedding, themed party or any other fun occasion.
That's it!
