Top xTool Laser Cutter Projects to Sell for Money
Make money with a laser cutter!
If you are looking for the best products to sell for money, made with a laser engraver/cutting machine, there are so many ideas.
Learn what the best products to make and sell for quick revenue turnover or for starting small businesses.
If you bought a laser cutting machine, you probably want it to turn into a profit pretty quickly...if you are just using it for personal use, you still might like this list of laser cut products.
Here's all my tips and tricks!
First: Laser Cutting Machine.
I've got a whole post on "Which Laser Cutting Machine is Best for me?"
Check out the full post if you are considering a laser cutter. (especially if you want to cut 3-5 mm acrylic in all colors)
A desktop laser cutter is perfect for a wide range of materials and personalization options. They can cut and engrave really intricate designs on various materials.
The free software is easy to use and accepts a variety of file format (SVG, PNG, JPG, DXF), no need for adobe illustrator because free laser cut files are everywhere.
xTool Machines:
- xTool F1 Ultra 20W Fiber and Diode Laser
- xTool M1 Ultra (4-in-One Craft Machine)
- CO2 Laser xTool P2 Machine
- xTool F1 Portable Laser Cutter
- xTool S1 20W or 40W ( I have the 20W--see this post)
- xTool M1 10W Deluxe RA2 Pro (this is the one I have--see this post) xTool RA is the Rotary Attachment for doing tumblers, cups, etc.
xTool laser machines come in 4 different laser beam options: Diode laser machines, xTool P CO2 lasers, IR Laser Module and their newest Fiber Laser. Some of the machines, like the xTool S 1 have an interchangeable laser head so you can swap them out for different surfaces.
In the future you can add to your purchase with a honeycomb panel riser base, air assist set, fire detection (comes with newer models), xtool fire safety set, automatic conveyor feeder, xtool desktop smoke purifier or air purifier if you can't vent right out a window.
Second: Know your Market.
- Are you making swag for a local business or company?
- Are you going to set up a booth at the farmer's market?
- Are you setting up a stand at a comic convention?
- Is there a Holiday coming up?
- Are you going to do multiple craft shows?
If you are setting up at a comic convention, selling engraved business cards probably isn't in high demand or the best option.
So knowing your market is a great place to start.
If you are selling at a Horror-themed market, make Horror-themed merch.
If you are selling to kids, make creative projects and kits for kids to put together.
If you are selling at a craft market, focus on different designs of home decor and holidays.
So know your market and make things that market will love...make things that are trendy, a popular choice is upcoming holidays and niche. Unique design stuff to the right crowd is always a best-seller!
Start with a few free designs, just a simple design or 2--they don't even need to be vector files. Make sure you have the commercial license for selling them, for small business owners, and don't use copyrighted brands like Disney, BBC, etc.
Items with a personal touch always do well. If you offer On-Site customizing, with a portable laser cutting machine, like the xTool F1 or xTool F1 Ultra, that's a great option. Or you can save customizing for special events, an online store or selling on online platforms--the added benefit can always be repeat customers.
TIP: Post on social media regularly!
How to Make Money Crafting!
If you are branching into multiple areas of crafting for profit, check out this post for more awesome ideas on how to make money crafting:
How Much Should I Charge?
This is a very broad topic and can be altered based on a lot of variables.
I always charge double of what I immediately think.
I charge enough that I am thrilled to make the item, instead of feeling grumpy about it...or like it's wasting my time.
I don't give family and friends a discount...they should pay double...they are family and friends helping to support my small business, not ask for a discount.
Here's a good formula for what to charge for handmade goods:
Cost of Supplies + $20-50 an Hour for Time Spent
This can vary, but I wouldn't charge money for the time the laser machine is running. Cheaper machines have a slower run time...so if you charge for the slower time, the price will be much higher than people who have faster machines.
So get started selling and then upgrade your machine in the future.
What are the BEST-SELLERS to Make with a Laser Engraver Cutting Machine?
Best sellers are ALWAYS the items that are $10 or LESS.
Set up a table and clearly mark that everything on the table is 10 bucks or less!
People LOVE this.
They will find their favorite thing or things and buy them.
Those little impulse, micro transactions, add up!
The paint and finish will make a difference.
High quality finishes is the way to go.
Some people say that their best sellers are filled with crude sayings...I just refer back to "knowing your market" and finding your best-selling item.
