Use some UV epoxy resin, real flowers pressed with a flower press or pages of a heavy book, a silicone mold and a UV gel light or direct sunlight to harden the resin.
I pressed strawberry leaves, 4 leaf clover and crocus blossoms using my Ditsy Flowers press, the kit comes with everything needed to press gorgeous, vibrant flowers. Learn all about pressing flowers here!
My resin piece has a few air bubbles in it (you can use a heat gun to remove them before the resin sets), but I love the detail that shows up on the dried flowers.
It takes just a small amount of resin to create little tokens of natural flowers.
Supplies Needed for Pressed Flowers in Clear UV Resin:
- Pressed Flowers (Use this kit from Ditsy Flowers)
- UV Resin
- UV Light
- Silicone Coaster Mold
- Nitrile Gloves, Mask, other protective gear
Step 1: Resin
For best results begin with a thin layer of resin in one cavity of the resin molds.
The first layer should be thin and fill the entire mold to have clean edges...or just make a small pile to look like a wax seal or token shape.
The UV resin works best if the mold is clear, but it worked great with this mold too. (Mold linked in the supplies list is a clear silicone mold and ideal for UV resin crafting).
Make a thin pile of clear resin and place 2 or 3 dried flowers in the resin. (No fancy resin calculator needed--it's already mixed and you just pour it and set it)
Then place the UV light over the resin and let the resin cure for one cycle of about 60-90 seconds.
There are so many wide application and different methods for using UV resin over deep pour epoxy.
But just like doing gel nails and nail art over regular nail polish, UV resin cures fast--the entire process takes just a few minutes.
However, when using UV resin, avoid thick pours as the drying process will be difficult all the way through.
After the resin piece is cured on one side, pick it up and turn it over.
Add another thin layer of resin and pour it out slowly to avoid air pockets--not much UV resin, and light it up again.
Continue adding thin layers of resin until you are satisfied with the thickness of the resin flowers paperweight.
It can dry and cure in the sunlight but will take a little more drying time than a UV lamp.
That's it!
The only question left is what type of flower will you pick to preserve?
Get creative with resin art and make wall hangings, ring holders, kind keepsake trinkets, resin flowers and other fun resin projects--add glitter or gold flakes to the resin for a little more sparkle!
Resin flower preservation is a beautiful way to cherish flowers from a wedding bouquet too.
