How to DIY Cardinal Themed Christmas Tree Decorations
Learn how easy it is to decorate a gorgeous Christmas tree with a cardinal theme.
I'm sharing a bunch of DIY ornament tutorials to make the most memorable Christmas tree decorations.
Handmade holiday decorations are the best, they can be given as gifts and are treasures year after year.
The first time I ever saw a cardinal with my own eyes was the week or so after I moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2012. (picture below)
I took my kids on a walk, with the intention of not coming home until we had seen and properly photographed a cardinal.
Cardinal birds don't migrate, so if you see them in the Summer time, they'll be there in the Winter time too.
Cardinals are a good omen, they represent loved ones passed on, and are the perfect addition to decorate with at Christmas time. Like they say "Cardinals appear when loved ones are near!"
So a cardinal themed tree was just what I needed this holiday season!
I love using a flocked tree--it transforms everything into a white palette instead of bright green.
Then I love adding natural elements of wood, red cardinal ornaments, gold bead garland and ornament balls.
Then anything that adds a touch of red is perfect, like red berries, it's just perfect with cardinal Christmas ornaments.
My daughter's girl friend brought me the cardinal on the bench from North Carolina, which is where I lived the first time I ever saw a cardinal in real life (pic above)...so I based the whole Christmas tree decoration off of that darling bird.
I am decorating a pencil size Christmas tree, but this theme would be beautiful on tabletop trees, grapevine wreaths, or on the front door in a Winter wreath.
If you are doing a Cardinal wreath, get a wreath form from the Dollar tree and make little decorations for it, just like this tree.

Turn a loved ones handwriting into a treasured ornament using sublimation.
When a person passes away, everything they worte, said or made becomes a treasure. My mom passed away from cancer in January 1998 and I decided to turn her handwriting into ornaments this year.
I scoured through all my old notes, pictures and papers to find the perfect sample of her writing.
I found the last line in a letter she wrote me, when she knew she was going to die, and it was such a wonderful letter legacy.
