Supplies Needed for Knit Wrapped Wire Word Art:
- Tulip I-Cord Knitting Machine
- Yarn (lightweight and variegated)
- 10" Wood Bead Wreath
- 14 Gauge Wire (I'm using aluminum, but copper wire works too)
- Wire Flush Cutters
- Hot Glue Gun
- Paper and Pencil
- Scissors
- Plastic Needle
Learn all about the i-cord KNITTER, how to set it up, how to start the yarning process and how to finish off a yarn tube rope here:
Step 1: Word Template
Begin by making a word template with a pencil and paper to turn into the wire wall art.
Just write in cursive so all the letters of the word connect...I wrote peace for my wreath.
There's lots of free template files online, or you can even use a script font, like Stylish or Farmhouse, just use all lowercase letters for ease...capital letters are much trickier.
Step 2: Wire Words
Now use the soft wire and form the word out of it.
It's soft enough to bend with your hands but still holds its shape pretty good.
I'm using 14 gauge wire, but you can use thicker wire if you want to bend the wire with round nose pliers.
If you use thicker wire, you'll need to make the sharp bends with a pair of pliers.
Write out the wire art in your own personal style for a personal touch.
You can do much longer words or just the first letter of a word like a monogram.
I think a 5 letter word is perfect for a 10 inch wreath.
Step 3: Knit Rope
Now pick a lightweight yarn for the i-cord KNITTER machine by Tulip.
The machine is easy to use and set up, it just needs a lightweight yarn to work properly.

Once you have the yarn threaded through the machine and starting to knit, just knit until you make the desired lengths of yarn rope.
Measuring out the wire is a good way to know how much you need...or if you just try to trace the wire sign with the rope and see when you have enough.
When you reach the length you need, cut off the yarn and let the rope fall through the i-cord knitter.
*NOTE: Before going to the next step, place a little dot of hot glue on the end of the wire word, this will make threading the rope on easier.
Step 4: Rope Threading
Now instead of tying off the end of the yarn rope, use the open end to thread it through the wire word sign.
Simply slide the yarn over every part of the wire word, it gets tricky over the hard corner parts, just pull the wire out a little and slide it over.
It's a little tedious, and I didn't put hot glue on the end of my wire, so it wasn't as smooth threading as I was hoping.
After getting the yarn rope to the end of the sign, tie off the end of the rope by threading a plastic needle through all 4 loops and pulling tight, right at the end of the word.

Step 5: Bow
Now use the i-cord knitter to knit the desired lengths long enough for a cute little bow on top of the wreath wall sign.
Finish off the ends of the short piece of yarn knitting so it doesn't unravel on either side.
These fun knit ropes are great for lots of things...decorative purposes on a knit hoodie or poncho, tassels, macrame or other fiber arts, adding elements to gift tags, a standalone word sign and more!
Tie a little overhand knot bow to put on top of the bead ball wreath form right where the wire shows.
This wreath form would be really cute wrapped in twinkle lights too!
Get creative and make it for your own home, a handmade gift for Christmas, a birthday, baby shower, wedding gift and more!
Secure the wire word to the wood bead wreath by stringing a little yarn through the plastic needle and through the back of the knit tube on the word.
Then wrap it around the back of the wooden bead wreath and tie it in a knot.
Repeat for both sides of the wire word and then finish it off with tying on the knit bow right on top.
No installation guide needed, it's super easy to tie them off and then hang up the wreath.
I wanted to keep my wreath really simple, with the emphasis on a warm and cozy plea for peace.
There is so much I could say about it, but peace will suffice.
I love how it turned out!
I love the variegated yarn, it gives it such a fun knit sweater look.
I love the wood beads, they are simple enough not to take away from the wire word art.
It's a great base for any wire wrapping project, perfect for a name sign to hang in a bedroom or nursery.
