Monoprints are fun and easy to make using a Gel Plate...it's regular price is totally worth it, you can make countless prints!
I have a full post on how to do Gel Plate Monoprinting here.
I love how elegant the gold acrylic paint looks on black cardstock.
Supplies Needed for Gel Plate Monoprinting:
- Gel Press Plates (they come in different sizes, I am using 8x10)
- Clean Brayer (I recommend getting one the width of your gel plate, but it's fine if it's smaller)
- Sheet of Paper (I love 28 lb. Laser Printing paper)
- Acrylic Paints (I recommend inexpensive craft paint, but not the cheapest. If you buy from PlaidOnline use the code DOODLECRAFT15 for 15% off.)
- Baby Wipe Container
Supplies Needed for Monoprint Greeting Cards:
STEP 1: CUT MONOPRINT
Begin by using a dry mono prints and cutting it with the paper cutter, each piece of paper mono print will make 4 cards.
Trim off the unpainted edges and then cut the paper into 4 equal pieces.
The 4 quartered papers should measure: 5 inches by 3 3/4 inches.
STEP 2: CUT GOLD PAPER
Use the paper cutter to cut one piece of gold paper into 4th's.
Trim off an extra quarter of an inch, so there will be a black border around the finished card.
The gold paper should measure: 5 1/4 inches by 4 inches.
STEP 3: ADHERE LAYERS
Cut a sheet of black cardstock in half, so it measures 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches.
Use the paper score board to score the cardstock in half, and then fold along the score line.
Then use the double sided tape to adhere the gold metallic paper to the black card front, leaving a little peek of the black cardstock showing.
Then use the double sided tape to adhere the monoprint cut out onto the top of the metallic paper, leaving a border of the gold showing.
Then cut a decorative label out of black paper and write a message on it in gold pen.
You can leave the card blank or add a seasonal greeting!
That's it!
It's easy to transform a gel plate monoprint into a beautiful greeting, birthday or even Christmas card for everyone on your mailing list!
The gold on black with the ginkgo leaves is stunning and such a fun technique that anyone can do.
The monoprints make the perfect background pattern for card making and paper crafts.
