How to Make Mini Charcuterie Dollhouse Dessert Board
Learn how to make the most adorable miniature charcuterie dessert boards.
These cute mini's are perfect for a dollhouse at 1:12 scale.
They also make the most darling earrings, magnets, ornaments or just shelf decor.
MINIATURES AT 1:12 SCALE
When I was little little, my mom was totally into dollhouse miniatures at the 1:12 scale.
She had several little house and store fronts decorated with all the littlest things, the bakery was everyone's favorite...it even had a miniature wedding cake!
They were so fun to look at and watch her create...and are a great memory of her now that she's been gone for 27 years.
I've honestly never really been excited about making my own dollhouse fronts but recently I've been inspired (I'm blaming mom here) to make some cute miniature things...and they are so cute!
I love how these little dessert boards turned out and can't wait to show you more of my little set up.
HELP FOR MAKING MINIATURES
These are tiny and can be tedious to make, lots of up close and big clumsy fingers.
I love these magnifier glasses, they have an LED light and make up close projects much easier, totally worth 20 bucks!
I decided to make a TON of little dessert boards because it's probably not something I will ever make again...however I have some
listed on my Etsy shop if you'd rather just snag one for a LIMITED TIME!

STEP 1: CLAY STRAWBERRIES
The first step for making the cutest charcuterie board is to make a strawberry for each board.
I don't have a mold for the strawberries, but they give the board a beautiful pop of color.
I only made eight little strawberries and should have made more, but it all worked out.
Get some red clay and roll it into a ball, then into a tear drop or heart shape, about the size of a grain of rice or two.

Use a piercing tool to add a few small dimples in the clay, like the little strawberry seeds.
Then use a silicone brush tool and scrape a thin layer of green polymer clay and press it onto the top of the strawberry body.
Place all the finished pieces on your baking sheet as you work for easy baking in the kitchen when you are done.
These cute little strawberries add so much to a little dollhouse kitchen fruit basket or charcuterie board with other miniature food pieces.
If you are so inclined, you can create all the fruit you desire using clay...there are so many amazing tutorials on making detailed canes, it's just not my passion.
I made fried eggs in the same manner as the strawberries, in that I don't have a mold for them.
I used translucent clay for the egg whites and then some yellow for the centers.
They are easy to make on a tile and use a small spatula to transfer them to the baking sheet after.
STEP 2: MINIATURE BREADS
Making the miniature breads is much faster because of the silicone molds.
Just hold some clay in your hand and let your body heat warm it up, then press it into the mold.
Then use a cutting tool to cut off the excess clay from the back of the mold.
Then simply bend the silicone mold slightly to let the bread pop out a bit and carefully pull it out with your fingers.
Place the little baguettes on the baking sheet and make as many as you like.
I love these little breads!
Now remember, if you are making these snacks for a child's dollhouse, not a miniature collector, play with parental supervision to avoid any choking hazard on small parts.
Lol, this is not real food...back to the chef's kitchen!
STEP 3: MORE FAKE FOODS
Now use the same technique as the French breads to make all the other kinds of desserts and breads.
Just pick other colors of clay to give the dessert board some variety, like these yellow-ish waffles.
The little waffles would make great earrings all by themselves!
They are so tiny and cute!
Remember, the approximate dimensions should be 1:12th what they are normally, so if something measures 1 foot long in real life, the decorative kitchen piece should be one inch.
CLAY WAFFLES!
I work on the 4x4 shiny bathroom tile piece, this keeps my clay free from excess fingerprints and is easy to clean up.
I just make them and then transfer them to the baking dish.
Some of the clay will leave behind a little color residue, so wiping it off before switching colors is optimal for these little handmade items.
CLAY CHOCOLATE BARS
Next up is some little chocolate bars.
These are perfect done in dark brown, light brown and white--or even pink--depending on the custom orders you are working to fulfill.
These little chocolate squares look fantastic layered on the little dessert trays.
CLAY BUNDT CAKES
Next is these little twirly cakes...are they bundts, are they something that is much fancier than I am?
Probably.
They are adorable and I did them in brown as well, like little chocolate cakes.
CLAY CROISSANTS!
After the cakes are some little flaky croissants, there's crescent rolls too!
These are so cute and curvy...I imagine that these little guys would be a great seller in a miniature dollhouse bakery storefront!
CLAY DOUGHNUTS!
Up next is the doughnuts!
Donuts are iconic and fun.
They really hit the peak periods of dessert board making because they add color and texture.
I love the pink frosted sprinkled doughnuts on the boards.
CLAY MOCHI NUTS
Last of the clay molds is the mochi nut!
These delightful donuts are puffy and cute, and perfect for these little dessert boards.
Each of the silicone molds has a variety of sizes to choose from, I did a bunch of all of them, but you can decide on your precise boards scale and base them off of that.
STEP 4: BAKING TIME
There's not really a proprietary method to baking polymer clay.
It's typically 275*F for 15 minutes for every 1/4" of clay.
I baked my tray for 15 minutes and set it aside to cool completely.
STEP 5: CUTTING BOARDS
Now on to cutting out the cutting boards.
I wanted my cutting board trays to have the wood grain to them, so I opted for using basswood and my laser cutter.
If you are not going that route, you can make the cutting boards with silicone molds included in the supplies list at the top of the post, but I won't be going into full details on making them with clay.
I used a file from creative fabrica that I like, linked above and scaled the boards down to 1 inch in size.
Then I cut out a bunch of them--it only took a few minutes.
STEP 6: ASSEMBLING MINIATURE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS
Now the fun part has begun, yay!
Assembling all the little charcuterie boards is a blast and this is a fun time to have an assistant if they are interested in helping...and not trying to eat the items.
Deciding which of the handmade items to place on each board...so fun.
I bought a couple packs of miniatures, plates and utensils so I could use them for a couple of "breakfast in bed" type trays.
These little dishes are so cute, those scalloped edges!
Now you will need your B7000, E6000 or T9000 glue with a precision tip.
Simply decide on which of the oven baked items you want on each little cutting board and glue it right into place.
Gluing everything down is great for a dollhouse that will be played with by children.
It's also great for cleaning up the miniature dining room when guests come over, you pick the item location and gear your trays for that purpose.
These cute little charcuterie boards are great for little handmade gifts like magnets, ornaments, earrings and much more.
LAYER YOUR DESSERT BOARD
Okay, tweezers would be nice, I felt like my giant fingers were a little too big, I just didn't want to wait for extra delivery time and still managed an undamaged item.
Apply a little of the glue to the base of the dessert and place it on the board.
I found that layers and a little overlapping made the boards look fancier.
On the sets of earrings, I did not do the desserts identical to each other.
I used the same shape of cutting board and just tried to balance out the foods and colors on each tray.
I think these little earrings are an excellent seller!
GLAZE THE DOUGHNUTS!
Oh, the glaze!
I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic mixed with a little paint to make the glaze for the donuts, and just the clear for the glazed donuts.
I also mixed a little brown paint with lots of dimensional magic to make the syrup on the waffles, I stuck the butter on the Dimensional Magic mixture and it dried solid.
There's a lot of little details on these treats!
I used a tiny paintbrush and acrylic craft paint to paint the little sprinkles on the pink donuts.
Wow, what a spread!
This charcuterie board party is a huge success!
Look at all the little treats and desserts...which one is your favorite?
BREAKFAST BRUNCH CHARCUTERIE BOARD
The little waffles are dear to my heart, as are those little fried eggs.
I love this as a fun breakfast board...breakfast in bed or brunch.
PAIN AU CHOCOLAT!
This is the perfect bread and chocolate cutting board spread, no strawberries needed!
BREAKFAST IN BED
Again a lovely spread for the perfect breakfast in bed board.
I can see this cut board sitting on the edge of your gorgeous dollhouse four-poster bed, with a handmade quilt and a little cat curled up at the bottom.
Now let's turn them into something fun, if they aren't going to be used in a dollhouse as part of the dining room, kitchen, party or bedroom scenery.
Here's some ideas of things to turn a miniature charcuterie board into:
- Refrigerator Magnet
- Christmas Tree Ornament
- Shelf Sitter
- Earrings, Necklace or Pin-Back Brooch
- Miniature Home Decor
STEP 7: EARRINGS!
Begin by getting the earring hardware.
I love the gold plated stainless steel studs with loop, they are perfect for this craft.
You'll also need a jump ring and jewelry pliers.
Hook the jump ring to the charcuterie board hole at the top, then add an earring stud through the jumpring on the loop.
Close up the jump ring and put the earring back on the post.
It's super easy and the earrings look great--they are such a conversation piece!

Maybe you are tired of looking at all these little dollhouse bread boards.
I am not, I took billions of pictures and want to show them ALL to you, but I settled on like 50 of them.
I worked so long and hard making all these little things and I love how they turned out!
I've got a little board sitting by my desk so I can see it and admire it as I type and work.
Truly a labor of love!
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I made so many of these little boards, I decided to list some listed on my Etsy shop...so you can pick up one or two without all the work.
They are all one of a kind and once they are gone, they are not coming back...see if your favorite one is available right now!
I love seeing the size comparison to my old fingers, so tiny and adorable!
This darling board would look great as a magnet, hanging as an ornament in the Christmas tree, or sitting propped up on a bookshelf for little onlookers to enjoy.
That's it!
Phew, that was a lot!
Hopefully you learned how to make your own little miniature charcuterie dollhouse dessert boards out of polymer clay, wood and paint.
With all these cute little toppings, I am sure you will make a giant collection, just like me!
Decorate the fancy dining room, add a tray to the lady of the house's bedside or turn them into trendy and fun earrings. So many fun options.
