Make your Own Flower Wreath Crown:

When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I was the flower girl at my cousins wedding.

My mom had made me a little delicate flower crown to wear. The wedding was a big fanfare and I had to walk up the aisle with my cousin, whom I think was the ring bearer...it's hard to remember since I literally just did what I was told.

I loved it so much--I loved getting dressed up and wearing a crown. If I could have worn a crown every day, I probably would have.

I decided to recreate a diy nature crown about 8 years ago for my daughter.

I had a few silk flowers and used them to make this fun and brightly colored floral crown.

I hot glued the flowers on some elastic and made the perfect, most comfortable gorgeous flower crown and enjoyed it for years.

Just this week I acquired a bunch of gorgeous silk faux blooms and decided to make many more flower crowns based off the original flower crowns from 2016...this time using large blooms or small flowers from flower bunches.

How to Make a Flower Crown with Fake Flowers:

I used a combination of florals, picking different flower arrangements for different styles and color schemes.

I made these to fit the size of my head, but they can be altered for the circumference of your head and work great for little heads too. Plus they can be tightened or slightly loosened to make it the perfect snugness.

This type of crown is absolutely comfortable to wear and can be worn all day without head pressure, it's a great time to wear a floral wreath crown!

Here's the full step-by-step guide for this simple project with a few easy steps.

Supplies Needed for Making Flower Crown with Silk Flowers:

Step 1: Head Circumference

Begin by measuring the head circumference.

Add about 6 inches to the measurement and cut the desired length of the fold over elastic.

I used 31 inches of elastic per crown and the way it's made makes it easy to make it a little tighter or a little looser.

Step 2: Tie Elastic

Tie a square knot with the ends of the elastic, leaving about 2 inches dangling on each end of the knot.

This can be tightened or loosened slightly depending on the needs.

Text the size on your head (or the wearers) to make sure the elastic fits snug but not tight.

This will be the base of your crown.

The crown base can be any color of elastic, as it barely shows, but I picked colors that matched the color scheme of my flowers.

This is where the colors of a special event would come in.

Making your own flower crown is awesome, it's so cost effective for a great option for a high end look.

Step 3: Trimming Flowers

Prepare the faux flowers by pulling the heads off the flower stem, the long stem can be tossed or used on a different project.

Then use scissors to cut the center flower base as close to the base as possible...but not completely off or the flower could easily pull apart.

Just leaving a little visible part of the stem with the strong base.

Step 4: Hot Glue Flowers to Crown

Now it's time to hot glue the flowers to the elastic crown base.

This technique is perfect for fake flowers, but probably wouldn't work well with fresh flowers.

Add a dot of hot glue to the back center of the flower...or right on the elastic and then press the flower on the elastic.

Hold in place carefully until the hot glue cools...it doesn't need to be completely cold, but just cool enough that it's holding in place.

Larger flowers will need a little more hot glue for the extra support for holding them.

I've had no issues with the flowers being too heavy for the elastic crown, they all work out beautifully, even the really big flowers.

Here's how the back of the elastic looks.

The flexible stem is not uncomfortable against the head, if you feel discomfort, add a little extra length on the elastic for a little more room.

There are different ways to make a diy flower crown, but this is the best that I've found--no floral wire or bulky additions needed.

Step 5: Repeat Gluing

Now add another flower to the elastic crown about 2 inches away from the first flower.

If the flowers are placed too close together, they will bunch up instead of opening up big and full.

If they are too far apart, the elastic will show.

But it's really not hard, just space them about 3 finger widths apart.

The fun part is deciding the flowers you want on each of the nature crowns.

Will you pick red, orange, pink, blue or purple flowers?

The best option for picking flowers is to pick the ones you like.

Arrange them so that the biggest flowers are on the side of the crown or the back, this way they won't stand out on the forehead so far.

Then add some greenery or other natural elements if you want!

I placed some leaves behind the flowers on the crown sticking up to look like tiers of a crown.

I love how it looks.

I used about 5 inches longer elastic for this one, and it shows.

Okay, let's show off some finished nature crowns!

I love these and wear them everywhere, it's so much fun--suck a conversation piece!

Here's the same crown as above...it's the one I made 8 years ago and it's still in phenomenal shape.

No flowers have come loose over the years, the colors are still vibrant.

I did take off one green flower in front and add a pink flower so it's more my style.

This one is one of my favorites!

I love the bright yellows and orange!

It would look awesome with some plum flowers or other rich fall colors.

This one is giving me Loki vibes, but I love it.

It's very elegant with pink and maroon with touches of eucalyptus leaves.

The ends of the stems are just trimmed and hot glued right behind the big flowers.

This crown was simpler, in corals and teals...and to add a new piece to it, I hot glued some jewel buttons inside some of the flowers for a little variation and added bling.
